Frequently Asked Questions
PRODUCT DETAILS
Currently we only offer single-pole dimmers. This means they can be installed in a one-switch, one-fixture configuration. 3-way dimmers are coming soon.
Our dimmers and switches are compatible with standard US electrical boxes and wiring. They work with most dimmable LED, CFL, incandescent, and halogen bulbs. If you're unsure about compatibility with your specific setup, we recommend consulting with your electrician.
No special bulbs required. Dimwit dimmers work with most dimmable LED, CFL, incandescent, and halogen bulbs. The one requirement is that your bulbs are dimmable — non-dimmable LEDs are not compatible and may flicker or buzz. When in doubt, check the bulb packaging for a dimmable label.
Our products are traditional hardwired switches and dimmers — they work beautifully as standalone pieces. They're not compatible with smart home systems like Alexa, Google Home, or HomeKit. We believe the best interface is tactile, something you can feel.
Our plates are made of solid machined brass with a durable smooth ceramic, low sheen finish. Each color has been carefully selected. Knobs are made of a semi-translucent acrylic. Each finish is selected for beauty, longevity, and how it feels in the hand.

We are finalizing certification and compliance now to ensure our dimmers meet UL, ETL and cETL safety standards for residential dimmers.
Magwit™ is our patent-pending magnetic faceplate system — it's how Dimwit hardware installs without visible screws. The faceplate snaps cleanly onto the dimmer module using precision magnets, leaving a seamless finish with no hardware in sight. It also makes swapping new plates and knobs effortless, without touching your wiring or calling your electrician.
Our curated colorways are designed to work beautifully in any space. For custom requests, bulk orders, or bespoke colorways, please contact us at trade@dimwit.world—we love a special project.
We are finalizing certification and compliance to ensure our dimmers meet UL, ETL, and cETL safety standards for residential dimmers — recognized by all US and Canadian building codes and AHJs (authorities having jurisdiction). FCC compliance documentation is also on file. If you need certification documentation for a project, email TRADE@DIMWIT.WORLD.
Each piece includes the switch/dimmer mechanism, decorative plate, and knob(s). Mounting hardware is included. Standard electrical boxes and wiring are not included—your electrician will have those.
Use a dry, lint-free cloth or feather duster. No harsh chemicals, no water. Treat them like the little jewels they are.
Yes. Dimwit products require hardwired installation by a licensed electrician. While we've made them beautiful, they're still electrical devices that need proper installation for safety and code compliance. (Your electrician will love how easy they are to work with, though.)
Installation follows standard residential electrical practices. Your electrician will remove your existing switch or dimmer, determine if the risers that come with the power module are needed or not, based on the junction box, connect our product to your existing wiring (following included instructions), and mount it to your electrical box. Our screwless plates install easily for a clean, seamless finish. Most installations take less than 10-15 minutes per switch.

ABOUT DIMWIT
Builder-grade switches are made from plastic, designed for function only, and typically cost a few dollars. Dimwit hardware is machined solid brass with a durable ceramic finish, available in six curated colorways, with hand-formed resin knobs in three shapes. The Magwit system — our patent-pending magnetic screwless faceplate — means no visible hardware, no painter's tape, and a clean wall. It's the difference between a detail and an afterthought.
Yes — that's essentially why Dimwit exists. European brands have long set the standard for design-forward electrical hardware, but they're expensive to import, slow to ship, and difficult to specify for US projects. Dimwit is the first American luxury electrical hardware brand built specifically for the US market — same commitment to material and finish, designed and certified for US residential electrical standards.
Luxury electrical hardware refers to switches, dimmers, and outlets made from premium materials — solid brass, bronze, steel — with considered finishes and forms. It's a category that's been well-established in Europe for decades but has had no serious American entrant until Dimwit. The category sits at the intersection of architecture, interior design, and everyday tactile experience.
